Redefining Design with Craftsmanship and Innovation

Fumie Shibata

"Great design is a brilliant combination of form and function, aligning seamlessly with everyday life." – Fumie Shibata

Fumie Shibata, one of Japan’s most influential designers, is known for her ability to blend form and function across a wide range of industries, from electronics to furniture and hotel design. Her approach is rooted in a deep understanding of user experience, creating designs that feel intuitive, thoughtful, and human-centered.

Shibata’s work has earned her numerous accolades, including the iF Gold Award, Red Dot Best of the Best, and Good Design Gold Award. Among her many collaborations, her work with Brokis stands out, with collections like Awa, Bamboo Forest, and Bonbori.

Bamboo Forest draws on the serene beauty of bamboo stalks, with hand-sculpted glass casting soft shadows. Shibata's design is inspired by the natural simplicity of plants, bringing their calming presence into a striking, minimalist form.

Shibata's Awa collection is inspired by the Japanese concept of “awa,” or bubbles of air, creating an elegant, floating effect.

The Bonbori collection evokes traditional Japanese lanterns, casting a gentle glow that recalls the atmosphere of shrine pathways.

Shibata’s designs are characterised by soft, precise shapes that connect deeply with both people and their environments, enriching everyday life with elegance and meaning.
